JConcepts Reactor 2 Build
15 Feb, 2021
The build of the JConcepts Reactor 2 is very rewarding. Every piece goes together with such precision. The engineering of this kit is truly a work of art. Built to be the top contender of Retro Class Monster Truck Racing, this kit is designed to be a nimble and predictable platform. Powered by two brushed motors (not included), this kit is ready to get out and race and claim the top spot at any event.
Axle Assemblies
Each axle is equipped with a 6-gear differential, and included with the kit is 10K differential fluid. Once assembled, they are super smooth. Tech-Note: On the differentials, the pins shown in step 2 come pre-installed and are pressed in. Use a small amount of differential fluid to hold the spacers in place as you slide them together. The way the internal gears are installed is genius. The spur gear powers a topshaft like most RC vehicles; however, the top shaft is connected to a small gear connected to an intermediate gear axle powering a large internal idler. This then goes to one more idler in the front axle and two more in the rear axle controlling rotational direction seamlessly.
Shocks & Suspension
Eight shocks are included, and the manual goes into great depth to make the assembly seamless. Pro-tips are given to ensure you have the best experience while assembling the shocks. The bleeding process is cleanly laid out and makes getting the air out a breeze. The suspension feel is just like you would expect from a real monster truck. It bounces so realistically while also being planted during turns.
Swaybars
Included with the kit are swaybars that can be optionally mounted for more stability. They cleanly mount to the top side of the leaf springs and apply directional control right over the front and rear axles. Installing these is completely optional, and it is best to consult your track and ensure they are allowed per local rules.
Chassis
The chassis is built for extreme durability and rigidity on the track. Two, just over 3mm frame rails run the whole length of the chassis and are connected to each other by six large molded composite braces. Two aluminium side-plates are used to go down and hold the suspension, swaybars, and battery. The mounting of the leaf springs to the chassis is something special. JConcepts has you put one screw into the cross braces, and then the leaf mount goes over the top and is secured with two long 3mm button head screws. This traps the inner screw so it cannot back out, ensuring your monster truck stays locked together during your race.
Body Mounting
The body mounting system is really cool. The kit includes three different cage types for the cab allowing for various body fitments. Expanding on this, the cab sits on sliders, allowing for even more body options. Four delrin rods are included that you cut to the proper length, making the fit and finish of the body mounting unique for each body.
